Former vice president Joe Biden is playing mind games with Trump by releasing speech excerpts that are designed to get into Trump’s head.
There’s a lot of ways Trump fails the basic standard to be president — but one of them is this: Donald, it’s not about you. It’s about America.
Did he do anything to signal that he’s prepared to walk away from the thugs he’s embraced on the world stage — from Putin to Kim Jong Un? No. He did none of that. Instead, he gets up in the middle of the night to attack Bette Midler. He attacks the mayor of London. He attacks the American Speaker of the House. It was a stunning display of childishness for the whole world to see.
How many sleepless nights do you think Trump has had over what he’s doing to America’s farmers? Here’s the answer: Just as many as he had when he stiffed the construction workers and electricians and plumbers who built his hotels and casinos. Zero.
Joe Biden is getting into Trump’s head
NBC News’s Garrett Haake said that these excerpts are designed to get into Trump’s head, “Today he gets the political stage to himself. That split screen momentum of Donald Trump and Joe Biden trying to give primary voters a taste of what a fall campaign will look like. I don’t think it’s any accident that the speech excerpts were released this morning where they could be discussed on cable news all day long and get into president trump’s head. I would be shocked if we don’t hear a response from president trump to the way that Joe Biden has been characterizing him in a speech he hasn’t even given yet. That’s the path to victory for Joe Biden.”

Joe Biden is doing something that no candidate from either party was able to do in 2016. He is dictating the terms of the discussion. Trump is on the defensive when it comes to Biden. Ted Cruz and the Republican primary field could put Trump on defense. Hillary Clinton couldn’t put Trump on defense, but Joe Biden has Trump defensive and worried. Biden strategy is to show that he is the Democrat who can beat Trump, and the president keeps helping him sell that message to Democratic primary voters.
Biden is in Trump’s head, and he is going to use Trump’s obsession to try to power himself to the Democratic nomination.
