Trump Loses Again As Judge Blocks Move To Swap Legal Team In Citizenship Question Case

Trump loses again as a federal judge has blocked his effort to change the entire legal team arguing the Census citizenship question case.

Trump loses bid to swap out DOJ lawyers

The New York Times reported:

A federal judge in New York on Tuesday rejected the Justice Department’s request to switch its legal team midway through a case challenging the Trump administration’s effort to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census.

….

But on Tuesday, as a new team of lawyers began to notify the court of its appearance in the case, Judge Furman barred the old lawyers from leaving until they met a legal requirement to satisfactorily explain their departure and show that it would not impede the case.

“Defendants provide no reasons, let alone ‘satisfactory reasons,’ for the substitution of counsel,†he wrote, adding that their written assurance that the switch would not disrupt the case “is not good enough.â€

Trump is being defeated everywhere on the citizenship question

Trump has yet to win a single court decision on the citizenship question. The President has lost at every level of the judicial system, including the US Supreme Court. Trump can’t defy the courts and add the citizenship question anyway because the House is refusing to give him the money to reprint the Census with the citizenship question.

The Census appropriation expired on June 30. Trump has no more money for reprinting the Census or doing an addendum to the Census that includes the citizenship question.

The DOJ still hasn’t come up with a valid reason for the citizenship question. The administration is out of time, and it looks like the citizenship question will not be on the US Census.
