Black Lawmaker Told To Go Back Where She Came From While Grocery Shopping (UPDATED)

UPDATE: Rep. Thomas now says she is uncertain that a man told her to go back where she came from.

Pregnant state Rep. Erica Thomas (D-GA) was grocery shopping with her daughter when the African-American woman was approached by a white man who hurled slurs at her and told her to go back to where she came from.

A crying 9 months pregnant Rep. Thomas went live on Facebook to recount the white privilege racism she faced at the store:

Rep. Thomas was in the checkout aisle when she was approached by a white man who said, “Tou lazy son of a bitch. You need to go back to where you came from.”

This incident happened in front of her young daughter who asked her why that man would say that to her.

Rep. Thomas what makes someone so filled with hate that they would say something like that.

These are the consequences of Trump’s racism

Trump is enabling racists around the country to confront people in the grocery store, in the street, in normal daily life. Trump is encouraging public racism against minorities. It isn’t just that the president uses racism political gain. Racism as a political strategy has consequences for socierty.

A man felt so racially entitled and empowered by Donald Trump that he approached a pregnant woman with her child in the grocery store and racially attacked her.

This is what the party of “family values” has become under Trump, and it is why every American of good conscience must vote against this president’s reelection in 2020.
