After throwing his supporters under the bus this week and disavowing the racist “send her back” chants heard at his North Carolina rally, Donald Trump is now praising and defending the MAGA mob.
In a Saturday morning Twitter post, the president lied about egging the crowd on and said he wasn’t happy about the racist garbage his supporters spewed, but he went on to praise his supporters anyway.
“Just a very big and patriotic crowd,” Trump said. “They love the USA!”
As you can see, I did nothing to lead people on, nor was I particularly happy with their chant. Just a very big and patriotic crowd. They love the USA! https://t.co/6IVKEffNnq

It’s important to note that despite what he says, Donald Trump didn’t just inspire his supporters to break out into a racist chant; he basically handed them the script after a week of attacks on four congresswomen of color.
As PoliticusUSA’s Jason Easley wrote on Thursday, even the warmup acts at Trump’s North Carolina rally were essentially rehearing the bigotry before the president took the stage.
Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law, basically did a call-and-response routine at one point, saying at one point, “If you don’t love our country — the president said it…”
And the crowd responded, “Leave!”
You can’t love America when you hate so many of its people
Donald Trump likes to wrap himself and his supporters in the flag, claiming they – with their cartoonish red hats – are the epitome of patriotism, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
You can’t love America when you hate so many of its people – when you want to put up giant walls, keep people out and even ‘send back’ American citizens just because they have darker skin colors and different political views.
There is nothing patriotic about the assault on American values that we’ve seen playing out over the past two and a half years.
