Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has no interest in allowing a vote on the House-passed bill to expand background checks.

Mitch McConnell Blocks Vote On Background Checks Bill

CNN’s Manu Raju tweeted:

McConnell won’t allow the bill to be brought to the floor for a vote because Donald Trump doesn’t support it. McConnell only wants to bring a bill to the floor if Trump will support it, which is the biggest display of political cowardice that one will ever see.

It Doesn’t Matter How Many People Die, Republicans Won’t Fix Gun Laws

This is not a conversation about banning assault weapons or limiting who can get a gun. Background checks are another safeguard that will make it more difficult for people who shouldn’t have guns to get them. The message being sent is that any American who wants the mass shootings to decrease should not vote Republican because Republicans have no intention of doing anything that addresses the real problem.

Expanded background checks are popular with Democrats and Republicans all across the country. A person who is worried about failing a background check is a person that probably shouldn’t be owning a gun. Expanding background checks is the least that the Senate could do, and Mitch McConnell is refusing to do the bare minimum to save American lives.
