Florida Republican Party Holds Voter Registration Drive At Gun Show After Mass Shootings

Republicans show the ultimate disrespect to mass shooting victims by holding a voter registration drive at a gun show just after two mass shootings.

The Tampa Bay Times reported:

The Republican Party of Florida is planning to hold two voter registration drives at a South Florida gun show one week after two mass shootings ended with 31 people dead in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

The party’s regional field director emailed supporters Thursday asking for volunteers to help register voters at the Pembroke Pines gun show that will take place Saturday and Sunday.

“This is a great opportunity to engage the community and promote the values that make this country strong, prosperous, safe and great!†the email said.

The timing of the Pembroke Pines gun show has already drawn concerns from local residents, who have called the event insensitive to last weekend’s gun violence. City commissioners said they don’t want to host the gun show, but they already signed a contract to hold it at a city-owned venue, according to WFOR in Miami.

The location of the gun show is half an hour away from Parkland, where a mass shooting occurred at a high school last year.

Holding a voter registration drive at a gun show so soon after a mass shooting is an effort to exploit the age-old fear of Republican voters that Democrats are coming for their guns. (Hint: Democrats aren’t coming for your guns.)

Republicans see 70% of the country supporting a ban on assault weapons as an opportunity to literally scare up votes at gun shows. Republicans will never to do anything to end mass shootings because in a sick and cynical way mass shootings are the helpful motivation that is used to scare Republican voters.

The behavior of the Florida GOP is sick, twisted, and also Republicans won’t do anything to fix the nation’s gun laws.
