Trump Thinks That He Controls The Presidential Debates (He Doesn’t)

Trump is under the false and delusional impression that he makes the rules and controls the general election presidential debates.

Video:

Trump said, “I think they’re making a big mistake because Fox was treated very badly by the Democrats. Very, very badly. Having to do with the debates and other things. I think fox is making a big mistake because, you know, I’m the one that calls the shots on that — on the really big I guess we’re probably planning on three of them.”

The president does not control the presidential debates. The debates are planned and run by the Commission on Presidential Debates, which is a non-profit corporation that is sponsored by both parties.

Trump has harbored this delusion for months. In March of 2019, Trump claimed that he could block all of the other networks from airing the presidential debates, which he can’t do.

The president should know this because he participated in three presidential debates in 2016, but he is so out of touch with reality that he actually believes that he will get to set his own debate rules in 2020.
