A Majority Of Americans Now Favor A Mandatory Buyback Of Assault Weapons

A majority of Americans (52%) support a government program to buyback assault weapons and get them out of the hands of potential mass shooters.

According to the ABC News/Washington Post Poll:

By a margin of 52%-44%, the American people support a mandatory program that would force assault weapon owners to sell their guns to the government. The Second Amendment is not an unlimited right, no matter what the gun lobby suggests.

The point of the poll finding is whether it is through a gun buyback or some other action, the majority of Americans are sending a loud message that they want assault weapons off of the streets. Republicans in Congress, Trump, and the NRA can try to claim otherwise, but the American people can see where the mass shooting problem is coming from, and it is not from video games or mental illness.

The problem is that more people are dying mass shooting incidents because of the ease and availability of assault weapons. Get rid of assault weapons, and the number of fatalities in these attacks will go down. Removing assault weapons won’t end mass shootings. The goal is to make it more difficult for mass shooters to kill and injure scores of people in a few minutes.
