Donald Trump said flat out on Saturday that his criminal phone call with the newly elected president of Ukraine – a call in which he repeatedly asked for the country to investigate the Biden family – was “perfectly fine.”
In a two-part Twitter post, the president attacked the media for not looking into his debunked claim about Joe Biden and insisted that there is nothing wrong with (again) colluding with a foreign government to shift a U.S. presidential election in his favor (again).
Trump attacked “The Fake News Media” for making up a “story about me and a perfectly fine and routine conversation I had with the new President of the Ukraine.”

It’s almost unthinkable that someone who spent two years after the 2016 election shouting “no collusion” with Russia would pick up the phone and personally collude with another foreign power to help him win another election.
But it just confirms two things we already knew about Trump:
1. He thinks he can commit crimes without any repercussions. Republican refusal to put country before party and Democratic reluctance to overstep on impeachment has emboldened the president.
His 2016 campaign knew Russia was interfering, and they welcomed it. When it was the focus of a major investigation, he obstructed it. The lack of accountability for those initial crimes has encouraged him to do it all over again in 2020.
2. Trump sees Joe Biden as his biggest threat. The polls seem to confirm that fear, with RealClearPolitics.com showing Biden leading Trump by nearly 12 points. As CNN’s Harry Enten noted Friday on Twitter, Biden’s current standing over Trump in the polls is “unusual.”
I’m not sure folks appreciate how unusual Biden holding a 10+ pt lead on Trump is at this point,” Enten said. “No incumbent since at least WWII was down by anything close to that at this point.”
Emboldened by congressional inaction and fearful of Joe Biden’s candidacy, Donald Trump is committing more crimes to win another presidential election.
