The House Is Coming For Rudy Giuliani As They Demand Ukraine Docs

Three House Committees are demanding that the White House turn over all documents related to Rudy Giuliani and Trump’s Ukraine efforts this week.

Rep. Eliot L. Engel, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Rep. Adam Schiff, the Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, wrote to Sec. of State Mike Pompeo, “Seeking to enlist a foreign actor to interfere with an American election undermines our sovereignty, democracy, and the Constitution, which the President is sworn to preserve, protect, and defend. Yet the President and his personal attorney now appear to be openly engaging in precisely this type of abuse of power involving the Ukrainian government ahead of the 2020 election.”

The chairmen threatened to subpoena Pompeo and others for the documents, “By withholding these documents and refusing to engage with the Committees, the Trump Administration is obstructing Congress’ oversight duty under the Constitution to protect our nation’s democratic process. Due to the urgent and grave nature of these allegations, our Committees will have no choice but to move towards compulsory process this week unless the Department produces the documents we have requested.”

A member of Pompeo’s staff at the State Department was involved in Giuliani’s efforts, and Democrats want answers, “By withholding these documents and refusing to engage with the Committees, the Trump Administration is obstructing Congress’ oversight duty under the Constitution to protect our nation’s democratic process. Due to the urgent and grave nature of these allegations, our Committees will have no choice but to move towards compulsory process this week unless the Department produces the documents we have requested.”

The message being sent by Democrats is that Trump is not going to get away with using his office to try to steal a presidential election. Trump is no longer operating without being watched. While everyone is focused on impeachment, House Democrats are playing a valuable role in checking Trump’s corrupt efforts to collude with foreign countries on the 2020 election. If Republicans had a House majority, Rudy Giuliani would be in Ukraine, and House Republicans would be abusing their power to launch investigations into Joe Biden.

Democrats are coming for Giuliani as Trump made a big mistake by trying to use the Executive Branch in his Ukraine shakedown. It gave Democrats an opening, and they are coming for Rudy Giuliani.
