Fox News spent some airtime, not defending Trump, but calling his attack on the whistleblower misleading.
Chris Wallace said, “The spinning that’s been done by the president’s defenders over the last 24 hours since this very damaging whistleblower complaint came out. The spinning is not surprising but it is astonishing and I think deeply misleading.”
Wallace then walked through the whistleblower complaint and went point by point confirming that what the whistleblower said was true.
Chris Wallace went on to say that the whistleblower followed the correct procedure and the law.
Fox News is showing signs of breaking away from Trump.
Vanity Fair reported that Fox has no idea how to cover impeachment:
Fox has often taken a nothing-to-see-here approach to Trump scandals, but impeachment is a different animal.
“It’s management bedlam,” a Fox staffer told me. “This massive thing happened, and no one knows how to cover it.”
Fox News has had an internal civil war going on over Trump for years. The network’s leadership is starting to talk about a potential strategy for life after Donald Trump.
Sean Hannity and Fox and Friends will still be the good White House propagandists and defend Trump on the air, but the fact that Chris Wallace was given airtime on a weekday to reject Trump’s claims with facts is a signal that Fox News is hedging their bets and not 100% behind Donald Trump.
