Rudy Giuliani’s broadcasting and tweeting of his texts with the State Department have resulted in Mike Pompeo being subpoenaed in the impeachment investigation.
Rep. Eliot L. Engel, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Rep. Adam Schiff, the Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform subpoenaed Pompeo to turn over all Ukraine related documents.
The committee chairmen wrote, “Pursuant to the House of Representatives’ impeachment inquiry, we are hereby transmitting a subpoena that compels you to produce the documents set forth in the accompanying schedule by October 4, 2019….This subpoena is being issued by the Committee on Foreign Affairs after consultation with the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Committee on Oversight and Reform. The subpoenaed documents shall be part of the impeachment inquiry and shared among the Committees. Your failure or refusal to comply with the subpoena shall constitute evidence of obstruction of the House’s impeachment inquiry.”
In other words, if Pompeo doesn’t turn over the documents, he could be charged with obstructing the impeachment investigation, which could land him in prison should Trump lose the presidency.
Rudy Giuliani tweeted out his texts with State Department officials. The president’s lawyer then went on Fox News and read his texts. The next day, Trump’s Secretary of State gets subpoenaed in the impeachment investigation. Rudy Giuliani got Mike Pompeo subpoenaed.
The rats aren’t just fleeing the sinking Trump ship. They are pushing each other overboard.
