Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) warned that Trump could be the last Republican president ever because he is dragging the whole party down.
Raskin said on MSNBC’s Hardball, “We’re in an unprecedented posture right now. The President Of The United States tried to use the military and national security muscle of our country to shakedown a foreign leader in order to obtain political leverage over an opponent to get him to produce dirt on Joe Biden. That is an absolutely scandalous and untenable situation we’re in, and now we’re seeing his mental state rapidly unraveling on a daily basis where he calls American citizens traitors and liars and spies and uses profanity in public and so on. So it’s an alarming situation. I think before this is over we’re going to have significant defections from the Republican caucus, yes, on the House side and on the Senate side. And they are going to be begging us to do something about it. Because he’s an albatross on the Republican Party. He’s going to drag their party down. Abraham Lincoln was our first Republican president. Donald Trump could be our last Republican president.

Rep. Raskin wasn’t trying to be dramatic, but he wasn’t far off base. The Republican Party has already seen what an anchor Trump can be. It was on full display during the 2018 midterm election. Impeachment is not going to improve Trump’s approval ratings. As this scandal grows, Trump is only going to become a bigger weight around the necks of Republicans. Trump may not be the last Republican president in US history, but he has the potential to be the last Republican president for a very long time.
