House Impeachment Inquiry Immediately Subpoenas Arrested Giuliani Associates

The House Impeachment investigation wasted no time in subpoenaing the Rudy Giuliani associated who were arrested while trying to flee the country.

Rep. Adam B. Schiff, the Chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, and Rep. Eliot L. Engel, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, sent a letter conveying subpoenas to two business associates of Rudy Giuliani, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman.

The Chairmen wrote, “Your clients are private citizens who are not employees of the Executive Branch. They may not evade requests from Congress for documents and information necessary to conduct our inquiry. They are required by law to comply with the enclosed subpoenas. They are not exempted from this requirement merely because they happen to work with Mr. Giuliani, and they may not defy congressional subpoenas merely because President Trump has chosen the path of denial, defiance, and obstruction.”

They later added, “In addition to providing the subpoenaed documents, the Committees also expect your clients to appear to testify about these matters at a later date.”

Parnas and Fruman were assisting Giuliani in efforts to pressure Ukraine to investigate his bogus Biden conspiracy theory. The two men were caught while trying to flee the country. They face campaign finance-related felonies that are a textbook example of how illegal foreign money is being smuggled into the US campaign finance system to help Trump and the Republican Party.

The men can no longer avoid the impeachment investigation. They are going to be sitting in prison, as they have already demonstrated that they are a flight risk.

House Democrats aren’t playing on impeachment. Trump’s path of obstruction is already developing cracks.
