Rudy Giuliani’s lawyer said that Rudy doesn’t consider Trey Gowdy a part of Trump’s impeachment team, and called Gowdy a joke.
Victoria Toensing, a veteran Washington lawyer who has been working with Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, expressed concern and disbelief that the onetime advocate for congressional oversight would be coming onboard.
“Trey Gowdy doesn’t know s***,†she said.

“He’s not on the team. Trey Gowdy is not on the team. Who told you Trey Gowdy? Not to my knowledge, not to Rudy’s knowledge, not Joe’s knowledge,†said Toensing, who had not heard of the move at the time of her interview with Yahoo News on Wednesday morning. “I have to check that with Rudy because that would be a joke, because we all don’t think much of him,†she said of Gowdy, adding, “Are you kidding? … Trey is a joke among us.â€
Yeah. This is going to go well for Trump’s impeachment defense. The hiring of Gowdy was made official on the evening after the Yahoo interview with Giuliani’s lawyer had been conducted.
Trump hires people on a whim and doesn’t tell anyone else that they have been hired.
The president also gets his job applicants from watching Fox News.
Toensing wasn’t wrong. Trey Gowdy is a joke and a terrible lawyer. He knows nothing about impeachment defenses and is betraying everything that he claimed to believe in while in Congress related to transparency and Executive Branch requirements to turn over documents to congressional investigations.
Gowdy is the Lionel Hutz of impeachment defense lawyers. Bill Clinton had an expensive and talented impeachment defense team. Donald Trump has the Island of Misfit Toys coordinating his legal defense.
If his lawyers can’t co-exist, they have zero chance of successfully defending Donald Trump on impeachment.
