WH Spokesman Tries To Clean Up World Series Mess By Claiming Some Fans Were Cheering For Trump

Donald Trump was humiliated at Sunday night’s World Series game in Washington when the stadium showered him in boos and plastered various impeachment-related banners around the ballpark.

As PoliticusUSA’s Jason Easley noted at the time, the heckling Trump faced wasn’t even the worst of it. The president’s reaction to the crowd was even worse as it showed Trump deflating in real-time.

A day later, White House Deputy Press Sec. Hogan Gidley is trying to clean up the mess by saying “some people there were cheering” for Trump, even though Washington D.C. is a “liberal town.”

“I think it was a great night or him, a great night for the country and a great night for baseball as we head back to Houston for the next game.”

With a straight face, Gidley said:

I didn’t talk to him about it. I know that there were some people there cheering as well. But listen, this is Washington, D.C., it’s a pretty liberal town. But the president’s a big baseball and while he wanted to go to the game to see the Nats play and also the Astros who were here a couple years ago. He also wanted the wounded warriors to get a chance to sit in the box and talk to them about their experiences and I think it was a great night or him, a great night for the country and a great night for baseball as we head back to Houston for the next game.

There’s a zero percent chance Trump wasn’t fuming about this all day

Hogan Gidley’s claim that Trump hasn’t mentioned his World Series humiliation is laughable. In fact, there’s a close-to-zero percent chance that Trump wasn’t fuming about the episode all day.

After all, this is a president who measures success based on much he feels people admire him, whether it’s through crowd sizes, poll numbers or TV ratings. It must have sent him spiraling that a sold-out crowd of baseball fans have no respect or admiration for him.

The White House can try to spin this all they want by pointing out that a few stray fans cheered for the president, but what happened on Sunday night in Washington was nothing short of humiliating for Donald Trump.
