The impeachment process is going to reach a new phase on Wednesday when the public hearings begin, and Rachel Maddow said they will show the broader American public that Donald Trump clearly betrayed the country.
Maddow pointed out that the first two witnesses – top Ukraine diplomat Bill Taylor and deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent – understand “how things are supposed to go” with Ukraine policy, and they’ll be able to shed light on how improper Trump’s behavior was.
“The country, through these impeachment hearings, will be able to see how wrong it was and how injurious it was,” Maddow said.

Maddow said:
[The public impeachment hearings are] going to be starting from the perspective of people who know how things are supposed to go, and what the legal and proper channels that U.S. policy is supposed to flow through, what those channels are. And I think that starts us off basically with a moral calibration, so we can sort of calibrate our moral vision so that the country through these impeachment hearings will be able to see how wrong it was and how injurious it was when President Trump came in and started acting for himself here instead of for the interests of the United States of America.
Wednesday marks a big day in the House impeachment inquiry. The public testimony, just like everything we know from the closed-door depositions, will likely be a disaster for Donald Trump.
But the first two witnesses set to testify on Wednesday mark only the beginning of a public impeachment process that will likely move very fast.
So fast, in fact, that before a single question is asked in the public hearings, the House Intelligence Committee announced late Tuesday that they have already scheduled eight more witness testimonies.
One by one, individuals from inside the Trump administration are preparing to come forward to paint a picture of a president who betrayed the country he swore to defend and protect.
