Senate Republicans blocked a bill to pass universal background checks while an active school shooting was going on in Santa Clarita, CA.
Sahil Kapur tweeted:
So far there have been no reported deaths from the latest mass shooting, but the shooter is dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound:
The fact that Senate Republicans would block universal background checks during an active school shooting is a reminder that there is nothing that will ever force Republicans to vote for smarter gun laws.
It didn’t matter when six and seven-year-olds were killed at Sandy Hook. Parkland didn’t matter. None of the other school shootings, including the one today in Santa Clarita, mattered to Senate Republicans. As long as the gun lobby money keeps coming, Senate Republicans will allow innocent children to be shot and killed at school.
The only way that America is ever going to get legislation to help stop the school shootings is for voters to vote for Democrats in 2020 and beyond.
