The smears and attacks from Donald Trump backfired as Marie Yovanovitch got a standing ovation from the people in attendance and some Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee.

AND WE’RE DONE: Yovanovitch has left after six hours of testimony. She received an ovation from the public (and some Dem lawmakers in the crowd) as she exited, not something you see often at public hearings. pic.twitter.com/ijaw4kggfH

Yovanovitch’s power and credibility were so strong that Republicans on the Intelligence Committee didn’t try to come after her at all. Instead, Republicans offered a defense of Trump that painted his firing of the former ambassador to Ukraine as no big deal. They tried to sell the story as having a happy ending because she ended up at Georgetown, which was laughed at by those in attendance.
Yovanovitch weathered six hours of testimony and attacks from the President Of The United States. She got a standing ovation for reminding the nation of what real patriotism and public service look like. Marie Yovanovitch served the United States of America for 33 years before she was kicked out of her post by a corrupt man with no interest in the collective or common good.
The standing ovation was heartwarming and a reminder that someday the stain on our country that is Donald Trump will be washed away and removed.
