Attorney General Merrick Garland responded to attacks from Trump and his supporters by filing a motion in court to unseal the search warrant.

Attorney General Garland said:
The Department of Justice will speak through its court filings and his work. Just now, the Justice Department filed a motion in the Southern District of Florida to unseal a search word and property receipt relating to a court-approved search that the FBI conducted earlier this week. That search was a premises located in Florida belonging to former president Donald Trump.
The department did not make any public statements on the day of the search. The former president confirmed the search that evening as is his right. Copies of both the warrant and the FBI property receipt were provided on the day of the search to the former president’s council who was on-site during the search.
The search warrant was authorized by a federal court upon the required finding of probable cause. The property receipt is a document that federal law requires law enforcement agents to leave with the property owner. The department filed a motion to make public the warrant and receipt in light of the public confirmation of the search, the surrounding circumstances, and the substantial public interest in this matter. Adherence to the rule of law is the bedrock principle of the Justice Department and our democracy. Upholding the rule of law means applying the law evenly, without fear or favor.
Merrick Garland Isn’t Going To Allow Trump and The GOP To Lie
Trump could have made the search warrant public at any time, but for some reason, he chose not to do so. Instead, Trump has been attacking the FBI and his Republican enablers have been making up stories about the search.
Once the DOJ’s motion is approved by a judge, the whole country will get to see what Donald Trump was hiding in his basement at Mar-a-Lago, and the contents of that warrant could be devastating for Trump and the Republican Party.
