Speaker Pelosi wrote after passage in a letter to her colleagues:
Today is a day of extraordinary progress for America’s families, as we send to President Biden the Inflation Reduction Act to be signed into law. Thank you to all of our Members for the unity, optimism and persistence you have brought to this fight. This historic achievement would not have been possible without the leadership of House Democrats, who laid the foundation for many of the life-saving and life-changing provisions in this bill.
Here is what passage of this landmark legislation means to your constituents:
- For our seniors: this legislation will lower out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs, bringing prices down and capping drug costs at $2,000 per year.
- For our working families: this legislation will lock in lower premiums under the Affordable Care Act, saving 13 million families an average of $800 a year.
- For our children: this legislation powers our transition to a clean energy future and fights the climate crisis, with clean air and clean water today and saving the planet for generations to come.
- For our future: this legislation invests in reducing the deficit by nearly $2 trillion over two decades, driving down inflation in the long-term.
As Republicans are watching the leader of their party get investigated for espionage, Democrats are passing historic legislation that could literally help to save the planet, while lowering the cost of prescription drugs and healthcare.
It has been a nightmare week for Republicans that with one House vote got even worse, as the Democratic victories keep piling up.
