Reckless Palin Endangers a Girls Basketball Team with Her Call to Go Rogue

Palin Role Model for Greed

Palin Role Model for Greed

Sarah Palin took to her Facebook to send a shout out to and also exploit the plight of an Illinois high school girls basketball team who will not be going to Arizona for a basketball tournament because of the state’s new immigration law, “This has-been ball player/Wasilla Warrior would like to send a shout out of support to the Highland Park High School Giants Girls Basketball Team in Illinois. These girls have been working, having bake sales, and saving money for months in order play in a hoop tournament in Arizona. They’ve won their school’s first conference title in 26 years, but now because a school bureaucrat – an assistant superintendent – wants to play politics, they’re not allowed to play ball.â€

Palin compared the Asst. Superintendent who made the decision to not let the girls play to Communist China, “The assistant superintendent claims that a trip to Arizona “would not be aligned with our beliefs and values.†But apparently the school has no problem sending kids on trips to China, which has a population control policy that is anti-girl in practice – contributing to female infanticide and abandonment and sex-selective abortions. So, is China – with its many serious human rights violations (too many to list here) – “aligned†with the “values and beliefs†of the school? But our sister-state of Arizona is not? Really? This is ridiculous and totally unfair to the girls who just want to play ball. Going to Arizona to play in a tournament will not endanger them, and the ban sure doesn’t solve the problem of unsecured borders.â€

Now, let’s just pause for a minute and check our Palin facts. It seems Sarah Palin went to Hong Kong last year during which she gave a speech attacking the President of the United States — while on foreign soil (like all good Real Americans during wartime). Palin also told the audience how much like Alaska Hong Kong was:

“We have much in common with Hong Kong. We’re both young and transient, independent and libertarian. Places that continue to show the world, the power and the resilience of the free market system at a time when too many are questioning it. So for Alaska, which is the air crossroads of the world, to this prosperous dynamic force in the world, Hong Kong, I bring good tidings, wishes for more blessing and vibrant life and even more freedom.â€

Oh, but now that she’s not getting money from China, it’s suddenly a place full of human rights violations. Or, rather, now that a high school basketball team is protesting the violations of US citizens in Arizona, Palin, who happily drove a VW Jetta (manufactured ironically in Mexico), suddenly has a problem with China. Yes, this is all making sense in the Palin world of political expediency. She is, of course, anti-civil rights, so she’ll use anything to achieve that end – even if it means pretending to be outraged over China’s human rights abuses.

One might pause here to recall that Hong Kong is a major capitalist service economy characterized by low taxation, free trade and minimum government. Sort of like the world of which Palin and her frothing band of costumed tea baggers dream.

Not satisfied with causing divisiveness at a high school, Palin sought to convince high school girls that Arizona’s racist immigration policy should be supported, “These boycotts of Arizona will not help the state or lead to positive change. Economic and political boycotts of our nation’s 48th state will hurt all Arizonans – including all members of the Hispanic community. If people really want to help, they should tell President Obama to do his job: secure the border. If he were to do his job, the good people of Arizona, who have been overwhelmed by violence on their border, would not feel compelled to do it for him.â€

Palin is in a rather precarious position from which to make judgments about Obama’s governing, after all, she did quit her job as Governor mid-term to make money, leaving Alaska as it plummeted into dire financial straights, from which the federal government (Obama) had to save it. Alaska has always ranked high in its dependence upon the federal government for both employment and pork, and this only increased under Palin’s rein. A tough pioneering gal who can govern with common sense she ain’t. Palin also left Alaska war-torn and divided by her own ethics scandals and partisanship post 2008 campaign. In the end, the Palin brand resulted in a national cheapening of Alaskan values. The calculation behind Palin’s hubris is almost painfully embarrassing.

Is Palin really a viable role model for young women? Just listen to what a fellow basketball teammate had to say about the Conservative Darling according to Lorenzo Benet in his book “Trailblazerâ€:

“She ran around like a rabid little thing,” Welch (a fellow player) recalled. “She did not like to lose and sometimes cried after losses. She was very petulant and formidable – there was no stopping her. We’d be practicing and drilling – she wanted the ball so badly she’d get really red in the face and scratch and claw until you just wanted to say, ‘Here, take the ball.’ When I heard they nicknamed her Sarah Barracuda after the way she played on the basketball court, I thought, ‘Wow, perfect.’ “

Once again, the evidence points to Palin’s obsession with getting things for herself and her inability to play well with others. My high school field hockey coach always said, “there’s no “I” in team”, but maybe in Real America sports aren’t used to teach sportsmanship and character. Maybe character is now a liberal value.

The same day on Fox News, Palin claimed the boycott is bad for Hispanics, “We are going to do all that we can to shed more light on what this political issue is, this Arizona boycott. It’s going to hurt everybody in Arizona, including the Hispanic community. And it’s not a solution to the problem. The problem is how are we going to secure our borders. Keeping girls off the basketball court has nothing to do with the solution that we need to find!â€

She then urged the high school team to abandon adult supervision and go rogue, “In the meantime, let’s help the girls “go rogue†and go play ball.†reiterated call for the teenage girls to risk their own safety.

Sarah Palin is no feminist and certainly not a good role model for young girls. She is not a civil rights activist by any stretch of the imagination and she doesn’t understand how to govern, nor have the temperament to finish a job for which she took a solemn oath to the people of Alaska. Palin needs to stick to that which she knows best; making money off of the misinformed.

I’d like to close with a shout out of my own, to all of those who want to play ball with the Constitution by speaking out against the Arizona law and add a further shout out to those who support this country during wartime and a deep recession brought on by modern day Conservative recklessness. Also, too.
