Ah yes, spring is in the air: the budding of the foliage, the nice warm breeze and of course, primary season. Here in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Democratic Primary, just over a week away on May 18th, is heating up. Former Republican turned Democrat Arlen Specter is in a tight race with current PA Congressman Joe Sestak for the chance to be the Democrat's candidate for Senate in the November election.
How desperate is John McCain to hold off primary challenger J.D. Hayworth and hang on to his Senate seat? On Fox News Sunday today McCain denied that he ever was a maverick. Now McCain claims that he is not a maverick, but, "what I was saying was that I have considered myself a person who's a fighter." It is so mavericky to deny ever being a maverick.
Even though the far right is trying their best to unseat John McCain, the Republican establishment continues to line up behind him, as today Jeb Bush endorsed McCain over his primary challenger J.D. Hayworth. Bush said, "John is a proven conservative leader committed to reducing taxes, fighting wasteful spending and keeping America safe." McCain is calling in lots of favoring and showing why the tea party movement has little chance of overthrowing the GOP establishment.
Fox News went into full spin mode after it was announced that Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) had won the CPAC presidential straw poll with 31% of the vote. Paul beat FNC favorite Mitt Romney, and the network's newest on air talent Sarah Palin. Fox News not only didn't identify Paul as a Republican, but pointed out that poll was unscientific and, "bragging rights."
Right wingers are always complaining about how that mean liberal Jon Stewart is always picking on them and their network Fox News, well on Monday night's The Daily Show, Stewart unloaded on the gaffe riddled campaign of Democratic Senate candidate Martha Coakley. Check out the video.
Tonight on her program the Rachel Maddow Show, Rachel Maddow and guest Joan Vennochi delivered some clear analysis of the factors that are contributing to the close nature of the Massachusetts US Senate race. They pointed out that the race is more complicated than Obama and healthcare.
Tonight on his MSNBC program Countdown, host Keith Olbermann directed one of his quick comments towards Republican Massachusetts Senate candidate Scott Brown. He said, "In short, in Scott Brown we have an irresponsible, homophobic, racist, reactionary, ex nude model, teabagging supporter of violence against women..."
On his MSNBC program The Ed Show tonight, host Ed Schultz addressed speculation that he will run for the Senate seat currently held by the retiring Byron Dorgan. Schulz confirmed that he has been approached to run for the Senate seat, and most importantly, he didn't say no to a potential run for the seat.
