The Endless War on Terror: Remembering 9/11 and Knowing Our Neighbors

In the midst of our tributes to the first responders of then and now, in our gratefulness for those who serve in our nation’s military and for those who have given their lives in this service, and in our hope for tomorrow, can we also make room again to ponder the call to welcome the world’s exhausted, suffering, homeless ones for whom this nation’s welcome light shines?

Sarah Palin Hijacks 9/11 to Bash Obama

Sarah Palin put her brand of patriotism on full display on 9/11. Apparently to Palin patriotism means betraying America’s basic constitutional rights, while betraying our commander in chief, and holding a benefit for Sarah Palin Inc., not the victims or families of 9/11. Could it be any more obvious why Palin is a danger to our freedoms?

Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) were on ABC’s This Week today where Kerry unloaded on former vice president Dick Cheney after Cheney blasted the decision to investigate CIA interrogation abuses. Kerry said, “Dick Cheney has shown through the years, frankly, a disrespect for the Constitution, for sharing of information with Congress…”

During his speech at the American Enterprise Institute today, former vice president Dick Cheney continued to offer up his version of the Bush administration. Today Cheney said that the release of two memos will lead to the Bush administration, “will stand up well in history,” but the most striking part of his speech was his fond remembrance of America’s fear after 9/11.

When it comes to torture, Condi Rice Isn’t Smarter than a 4th Grader

Former Sec. of State Condi Rice recently took questions from a few dozen students at the Jewish Primary Day Schools. A 4th grader asked Rice what she thought about what the Obama administration was saying about the Bush administration’s use of enhanced interrogation techniques. A 4th grader asked a question about torture. For people who think that morality doesn’t matter, think about that for a moment.

The Maersk Alabama Piracy and Terrorism

For years now, piracy has been a problem especially near the lawless nation of Somalia, but it took the capture of a U.S. operated ship for the problem to get worldwide attention, now some experts are cautioning that the motives for the piracy could be al-Qaeda affiliated terrorism, and money.

Obama, Ayers and ACORN: The Desperation of McCain

ImageWell, we are done with the final debate between the candidates and going down the home stretch towards Election Day. And it looks to me like McCain and his campaign are making every possible dumb move that can be made, and no Rovian tactic can help them. In fact, it is the Rove-like maneuvers that are hurting McCain/Palin in the eyes of the American people.

Polls Say Obama Won The Town Hall Debate

ImageThe latest CBS News and CNN post debate polls revealed that voters feel Barack Obama won the town hall debate with John McCain. In the CBS poll, 39% thought that Obama won the debate, and 35% thought that the debate was a draw. Only 27% thought that McCain won. A Liberal’s View of the Republican National Convention: Day 3

ImageI got home a little late tonight and got in just as Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett Packard, is speaking. I’ll leave her “comments” alone as I didn’t see all of it. I’ll start tonight’s “running diary” of the GOP convention with the first speaker I had the opportunity to fully observe.

8:08pm—Mitt Romney’s on stage. Wait, what? Romney’s on stage? Who decided to let him out of the Christian fundamentalist doghouse?

Obama Reacts to Detainee Supreme Court Decision

ImageBarack Obama said of today’s Supreme Court ruling that the detainees at GITMO have the right to challenge their detention in civilian court, “The Court’s decision is a rejection of the Bush Administration’s attempt to create a legal black hole at Guantanamo – yet another failed policy supported by John McCain.”

Is it Wrong to Call John McCain Old?

ImageSometimes when I write about Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s age in a less than flattering way, I get accused of ageism, so is it fair to call John McCain old? John McCain was born on August 29, 1936. By the time he accepts the Republican nomination in September, he will be 72 years old.

Reid Reacts to GAO Report on Pakistan

ImageThe non-partisan General Accounting Office issued a report today that concluded that U.S. has not met its security goals in Pakistan’s tribal region. Because of this al-Qaeda has regained its attack capability. The report also found that the Bush administration has no security plan for this region.

George Knows Diplomacy…George Knows Fallacy!

ImageI’ve been called a wordsmith; I’ve been labeled “loquacious.” Trust me, neither were meant to be flattering. But the Bush Administration, on Sunday, through National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley issued a statement on Bush’s eager participation in the opening ceremonies for the Beijing games that has me completely speechless.

Radio Show Wrap Up 4/10/08

What a wonderful train wreak that was. Eventually I’ll get this whole sounding intelligent and talking straight at the same time thing down. However I do blame myself for being absolutely unprepared since all of the notes I wrote down for the show had come up missing.

The Also-Rans: Rudy Giuliani

ImageWell, it has been about two weeks since I contributed the first part of my comprehensive look at the Presidential candidates that have fallen by the wayside. I do apologize for the delay, but apparently I forgot about Opening Day in St. Louis, which was last week.

Got Rice?

ImageSo, some very interesting rumors began circulating recently around the blogs on the “internets,” as our glorious president would say. It appears Secretary of State Condi Rice is lobbying for the VP slot on John McCain’s ticket.

The Also-Rans: Joe Biden

ImageWell, we are now down to three. Three candidates who have a chance at being President come this November. One Republican and two Democrats. History will be made regardless of who wins. We will see the first black President, the first female to be elected to the Oval Office or the oldest Commander-in-Chief.

Bush Defends Torture in Radio Address

Today, President Bush used his weekly radio address to defend his veto of a bill that would have banned the use of waterboarding and other forms of torture by the CIA. The president’s first point was to remind America that al-Qaeda is out there and wanting to attack. “Al Qaida remains determined to attack America again.
