Pelosi Announces Special Committee Will Investigate January Insurrection

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) officially announced the creation of a select committee tasked with investigating the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol.

“This morning, with great solemnity and sadness, I’m announcing the House will be establishing a select committee on the Jan. 6 insurrection,” Pelosi said. “The select committee will investigate and report on the facts and the causes of the attack and it will report recommendations for the prevention of any future attack.” read more

Senate Republicans Expected to Block Vote on 1/6 Commission

Senate Republicans are expected to block a vote to create a commission to investigate the Capitol riot of January 6. Last week, the House passed a bill to create the commission with a vote of 252-175.

Senators are divided. Speaking for the Democrats, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has said any attempts to block the commission “all has to do with politics.” Likewise, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has characterized the bill as “a purely political exercise” that would set bad precedent. read more

Capitol Police Officer Slams GOP’s Rewriting of History of Capitol Riot

Speaking to CNN, Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn, who fought off a violent group of former President Donald Trump‘s supporters who stormed the United States Capitol on January 6, expressed his fury at Republicans who have attempted to rewrite the history of the event, which was spurred by Trump’s falsehoods that the 2020 general election was fraudulent. House Democrats Announce Vote Next Week to Form Capitol Riot Commission

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) announced that Democrats will vote as early as next week on legislation to create an independent commission that will investigate the Capitol riot of January 6, the day a mob of former President Donald Trump‘s supporters stormed the United States Capitol in a bid to overturn the results of the 2020 general election.
