The long awaited job numbers came out today and exceeded expectations! Total non-farm employment increased by 227,000. The biggest kicker is the upward revisions of December and January.

As Republicans continue to filibuster extending unemployment benefits, the economic fate of our country hangs in the balance. Their obstruction to extending jobless benefits is a more a result of their ideological contempt for the social safety net that can historically be traced back to the New Deal than their claimed discomfort with a growing deficit.
A state of panic and denial has gripped the Republican Party, as they now fear that the economy might recover, before they get the chance to exploit it for electoral gain. A prime example of this is Rush Limbaugh, who on his radio show today, congratulated George W. Bush for any economic growth that will occur during the Obama administration.
