On Tuesday, George Floyd received justice as Derek Chauvin was found guilty of his murder. The next major trial this year will be that of Kyle Rittenhouse. The teenager traveled to Kenosha, Wisconsin armed with an AR-15 and shot 2 police brutality protesters.
The legal team for militia member Kyle Rittenhouse, the man charged with shooting to death two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in August, referred to him an “American patriot” in a video outlining their defense.
White House Press Secretary Kaleigh McEnany said that Trump would not weigh in when asked if he would condemn Kyle Rittenhouse.
Donald Trump has repeatedly declared himself the “law and order” candidate, wearing this mantle proudly. At last week’s Republican National Convention, the array of speakers trumpeted this slogan again and again as the dominant chord of Trump’s otherwise ill-defined policy platform.
Julia Louis-Dreyfuss made a joke about it last week when emceeing the Democratic National Convention last week. “If we all vote, there is nothing Facebook, Fox News and Vladimir Putin can do to stop us,” she said.
Facebook has been somewhat problematic politically over the years. White Nationalist groups have also used the site to organize violence.
Earlier this week, a teenager named Kyle Rittenhouse shot 3 people in Kenosha, Wisconsin killing two of them. While there were militia calls to “defend Kenosha” it is not known yet whether one of these calls inspired the teen to Kenosha.
Following the shooting, journalists zeroed in on a post from a group called Kenosha Guard. The post, published on , asked, “any patriots [are] willing to take up arms and defend our city tonight from the evil thugs?”
Facebook employees are furious and unloaded on Mark Zuckerberg during an all-hands meeting yesterday over his handling of QAnon and a Kenosha militia page that remained online after a shooting that killed two people. Here's my dispatch from inside: https://t.co/J5RfBM0lEk
Joe Biden has once again criticized Donald Trump for his failure to denounce white supremacists. The Democrat has often said that’s the reason he got into the presidential race.
The former Vice President spoke to CNN’S Anderson Cooper on Thursday and appeared to link an alleged double murder in Kenosha, Wisconsin to white supremacy.
I don’t know enough to know whether that 17-year-old kid did exactly what he did, but allegedly he’s part of a militia coming out of the state of Illinois,” Biden said of accused killer Kyle Rittenhouse.
On Tuesday night, a 17 year-old named Kyle Rittenhouse shot 3 people in Kenosha, Wisconsin, killing two of them. On Wednesday, the teenager was arrested for his actions.
While the exact circumstances of the event are unknown, Conservative media was quick to make Rittenhouse out to be a hero. Tucker Carlson claimed that his actions were necessary. Ann Coutler said that she wanted him to be the next President of the United States.
And today on the Fox News’ show, Outnumbered, host Katie Pavlich said, “The argument of vigilante justice, when you have no police around to defend businesses and people who are being attacked, and their livelihoods burned to the ground, there is a void that is filled.”
When Chris Wallace was brought onto the show, he immediately addressed Pavlich’s comments. “I’ve got to push back on something we said at the end of the last segment because there seemed to be the implication that somehow vigilante justice was understandable or justified by the lack of sufficient police action and authority and presence in some of these cities.”
After push back from the show’s hosts, Wallace continued:
“Just as it is fair to say that rioting and looting is a completely inappropriate response toGeorge Floydor Jacob Blake, vigilante justice is a completely inappropriate response to the rioting in the street. There is no justification for what happened in Kenosha and vigilante justice is a crime and should be punished as a crime.”
Fox News host Tucker Carlson praised the teen who shot and killed two protesters in Kenosha, WI for "maintaining order."
On Sunday, a Kenosha, Wisconsin police officer shot a man named Jacob Blake 7 times. Since that moment, protests have erupted throughout the Midwestern town.
On Tuesday night, a 17 year-old armed with an assault rifle shot 2 protesters to death and injured one more. The shooter, now identified as Kyle Rittenhouse, was arrested in Illinois on Wednesday.
Since the arrest, journalists have done a deep dive into Rittenhouse’s social media platforms. The teenager had active Facebook and TikTok profiles.
Rittenhouse’s Facebook page featured support for both Blue Lives Matter as well as President Donald Trump. There are also a plethora of guns shown in his social media presence including a long rifle and an AR-15.
Pictures have emerged of Rittenhouse at a January 30th Donald Trump rally in Des Moines, Iowa. The teen is sitting in the front row at the event. Rittenhouse also shared a TikTok video from the event.
