After Tuesday’s midterm elections were over, Parkland shooting survivor Jaclyn Corin pointed out on Twitter that a record number of NRA-backed candidates (27) were defeated.
“More NRA-backed politicians lost their seats last night than ever before. We are winning. And we’re not going anywhere, @NRA”
People in Florida love the Publix grocery store chain, but many were willing to forego shopping at their favorite store after news broke last week that Publix was a big political donor to an NRA-backed Republican candidate for governor, Adam Putnam. There was not only a public outcry, but widespread boycotts were organized all over the state, creating a public relations nightmare for the Parkland, FL based retail chain.
Reading the Second Amendment on its face value and in its historical context or original intent, it is clear that these ideas did not fall from heaven but were tied to particular realities of the day.
