Of course down through the ages violent wars have been waged over imposition of a particular religion, but in modern times the basic premise among religious people was to live and let live. All that changed after the terror attacks on 9/11.

There is a contingent of gun fanatics driven by racial prejudice and gun lobby fear mongering who desperately long to initiate a revolutionary war over attempts to stop the senseless gun violence.
The idea that an armed good guy can stop a bad guy is not borne out by reality. Law enforcement officers go through extensive firearm training, and yet they do not always stop bad guys with guns.
Politicians (a few at least) are making loud gun control noises. They do that every time there’s another mass murder. Nothing ever happens.
