His stance on issues is religious, his rhetoric is religious and his appeal is not to fiscal conservatives but to social conservatives, to those on the religious right who menace our democracy with the specter of theocracy.
In recent weeks right wing bigots like Tony Perkins have been featured on Hardball, The Ed Show, and Rachel Maddow among others, and it must stop.
It was inevitable, I suppose: The forces of theocracy accusing the so-called political left of trying to foist a theocracy upon the United States. And no, it’s not for the reason voiced by Ann Coulter that liberalism is a religion, but that Obama (gasp!) quotes scripture in defense of his policies.
