Department of Justice (DOJ) lawyers have filed a request in federal court to halt a lawsuit surrounding President Trump’s hotel in Washington, according to the Associated Press (AP).
“Justice Department lawyers asked a federal judge Friday to let them file a legal appeal that could, for now, keep President Donald Trump’s critics from getting access to financial records related to his Washington, D.C., hotel.”
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, said that Trump committed a certain Emoluments Clause violating by accepting $500 million from China while offering to help sanctioned Chinese telecom ZTE.
For the plaintiffs who are suing Trump over Emoluments Clause violations and conflicts of interest, the President's financial disclosure form shows that he is making millions off of being in the White House.
During his interview with The New York Times, President-elect Donald Trump inaccurately declared that he would have no conflicts of interest because"The President can't have a conflict of interest."
