There is no low that Republicans won’t sink to defend Trump, as Rep. Ron Desantis (R-FL) tried to claim that Trump was only joking when Putin expelled US diplomatic staff from Russia.

MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson asked Desantis about Trump thanking Putin, and the Congressman answered, “I interpret that as being more tongue in cheek.”
Jackson pushed, “He didn’t smile.”
Desantis kept covering for Trump, “That’s just kind of the nature of how he’s done it. He didn’t want to make it seem like something that really had affected us negatively.”
Jackson asked if he had talked to the President, and the Florida congressman answered, “Well, I haven’t talked to him since he made that comment. No.”
Rep. Desantis claimed that Trump was trying to diminish what Putin did by brushing it off with sarcasm.
There is nothing that Republicans won’t make an excuse for when it comes to Trump. Of course, Trump should have never been thanking Putin. He should have been outraged and defending the diplomatic personnel and interests of his country. Instead, Trump bowed to Putin, and once again, revealed himself to be Moscow’s lackey.
Republicans are never going to stand up to Trump. They are the biggest enablers of this president, which is why if the American people want their country back, they need to elect Democrats in 2018.
