People Are Reminding Ivanka Trump Of Her Father’s Sexual Assault Allegations After She Praises Oprah’s Speech

Ivanka Trump has a talent for publishing tweets showing her complete lack of self-awareness and prompting widespread ridicule. Like her Equal Pay Day tweet on the importance of pay equity for women, which she posted just one week after her father rescinded the 2014 Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces executive order implemented by former President Obama. There’s also her National Library Week tweet championing public libraries, institutions her father wants to strip federal funding from.

The list of examples goes on, and on Monday, she added another. This time, she praised Oprah’s inspiring speech at Sunday’s Golden Globe awards. As she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, Oprah recalled the challenges she’d overcome in her journey to becoming the successful woman she is today — but the part that moved most listeners was when she praised all the women who’d publicly come out against sexual predators who’d harassed or assaulted them in the past.

Ivanka was evidently one of the many who were stirred by the speech, and she decided to let everyone know. “Just saw @Oprah‘s empowering & inspiring speech at last night’s #GoldenGlobes,” she tweeted. “Let’s all come together, women & men, & say #TIMESUP!”

The obvious problem here is that her own father has been accused of sexual harassment and/or assault by over 20 women. Not only that, he’s also supported other men who’ve been accused of the same. Most recently, he formally endorsed Alabama Republican Roy Moore, whose numerous alleged victims included minors, for state senator.

Once again, Ivanka was hit with thousands of posts on social media reminding her of her own father’s actions.

While Ivanka may not be to blame for what her father has done, she continues to stay silent about his anti-woman agenda, all while taking on the image of a woman who is working hard to empower other women.

In fact, this portrayal of Ivanka as a feminist was used throughout her father’s campaign and his first year as president as a tool to minimize critiques of his sexist policies by “proving” that a women’s advocate was on his team. Last year, Ivanka gave a speech at the Republican National Convention championing the rights of mothers and working women, and she now purportedly does some kind of work in her mysterious White House role to promote equal pay and paid family leave.

Yet she remains quiet whenever her father dismantles these very things, while continuing to make public appearances claiming to support women’s rights as a method of softening the reality of how anti-woman the Trump administration is.
