Adam Schiff Warns Trump On Intimidating Witnesses After Cohen Threats Backfire

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) made it clear that Trump‘s threats and attempts to intimidate Michael Cohen backfired.

Rep. Schiff said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA:

We appreciate Mr. Cohen coming before the House Intelligence Committee for a second day as part of our ongoing investigation.

Mr. Cohen’s full cooperation came despite the not so thinly veiled threats emanating from the President and his allies. No person, especially not the President or his surrogates, should ever try to intimidate witnesses, scare their families, or seek to prevent them from testifying before Congress.

While we will not discuss the substance of his testimony at this time, Mr. Cohen cooperated fully with the Committee, answered every question we asked of him during both interview sessions, and provided important testimony and materials relevant to the core of our probe and that will allow us to advance our investigation substantially. We look forward to his continued cooperation with Congress and law enforcement.

Michael Cohen gave the House Intelligence Committee evidence that Trump and his lawyers were engaged in witness tampering as they edited Cohen’s initial testimony to Congress as it related to the Trump Tower Moscow project. If the evidence that Cohen provided checks out, it means that Donald Trump committed a crime while president.

Trump‘s threats and efforts at witness intimidation backfired on him as Michael Cohen doubled down and came to Congress with documents and evidence so that they wouldn’t have to take his word for it. Trump should have kept his mouth shut and not made an enemy out of a man who holds so much evidence against him.

In case Donald Trump didn’t learn his lesson, Rep. Schiff’s warning was very strong. Witness intimidation will not be tolerated, and no matter what Trump does, Adam Schiff is going to get to the truth.
