It is being reported that popular former two-term Democratic governor Roy Cooper will be announcing his campaign on Money for the open North Carolina US Senate seat.
I was praying and hoping that he would run for the seat. I proudly voted for him twice for governor (and attorney general) -- the guy is battle tested.
NC voters know who Roy Cooper is because of his eight years as governor -- even some squishy Rs have voted for him. It's going to be VERY difficult for the NC GOP to make something stick because Dems, independents and a plurality of Republicans trust him.
One of his crowning achievements was getting Medicaid expansion passed in the state. And now with that gutted, he's going to hold those accountable as Senator.
It's telling that the former state House leader Tim Moore (now a Congressman) voted to gut Medicaid, only 18 months after he and Phil Berger allowed it to go into law.
I'm really not that familiar with Roy Cooper, so I'm glad to hear from someone who is well acquainted with the man and trusts him to do what good Democrats do: work for the People.
I wish I was living in NC at least until the end of 2026 so that I could vote for Roy Cooper. He is a fighter, he is principled AND he clearly cares about extending (not cutting) health benefits to as many citizens as possible. He is an admirable politician - and in the times of MAGA mania he is a welcome warrior. VOTE ROY COOPER!
Gov. Cooper was a good governor despite the greedy Republican legislature. And he made McCrory a one term Republican the year Trump won and won reelection in 2020 in the face of an increasingly partisan Republican legislature. He’d make NC proud in the Senate!
He's a proven fundraiser, which is good because NC Supreme Court justice Anita Earls is up for re-election next year. Our state party chair Anderson Clayton is gunning to flip control of the court by 2028 or 2030 to have fair maps implemented.
Roy Cooper and his staff were amazing in their management of the Covid pandemic early years in our state. Gov Cooper was a calm determined leader for us in the state as the Trump federal response was a miserable uncoordinated disaster. He would be a great US Senator for NC and our exhausted nation.
I lived in NC for 10 years until moving back to the northeast this year . Great to be back in a blue state. Cooper was very good and popular unfortunately because of some of the worst gerrymandering in the country he wasn’t anywhere effective as he could have been. If it wasn’t for his many vetos from the gerrymandered state legislature the state would have followed in the footsteps of states like Texas. Great news for the state of NC and its future.
I think the endless recruitment calls by Democratic Senate leadership, plus Trump getting back in and the infamous battle between Justice Allison Riggs (whom he appointed) and election denialist Jefferson Griffin, made him want to step up to the federal level.
Do you live there? I lived right outside of Asheville. I left some good friends there so I continue to follow what’s going on. Hope for the day when it goes back to blue.
Good move. Let’s put everything into it. Every Republican Senator has been a MAGA gutless wonder!! Let’s send each of them back under the rock they came from!!
As a North Carolina resident, I love Roy Cooper. He's a sane, logical, soft spoken, calm and compassionate man. Someone who is desperately needed to run our government. I'm so happy he has decided to continue his political career!!

I remember that YEARS LONG battle for Medicaid expansion in NC, which is a beautiful state by the way. It was a huge achievement.---Jason

Make sure to vote for Roy Cooper. The Dems (the nation) need to get control of the senate.
I was going to vote for the Dem Senate candidate no matter what. I vote the WHOLE ballot.

Cooper got more votes than Trump in 2020, believe it or not. NC is notorious for split ticket votes for a D governor and R president/Senator.
I'm hoping with Anderson Clayton behind the scenes, we put Cooper in the Senate and recruit a solid candidate to unseat MAGA Ted Budd in 2028.
I'll keep an eye on this race and hope you get your wish.

He's a winner hands down.
Cooper will be a terrific candidate!
I am sure that former governor, Roy Cooper will win this Senate seat 💺.
I am thrilled that he will be running for Senate. He has been a wonderful Governor and we in North Carolina are very proud of him.

Yes we need well respected honest people back in office. Cooper should be a winner!💙💙👍🏻
Yes, no asshats allowed. The nation needs to clean up this mess.
Whoopie! Roy Cooper can "beat the pants" off of Lara Trump with one eye closed and his
hands tied behind his back!
