Former Rep Wiley Nickel is in the race. Usually, when a seat opens up with this much time to go, a state's top-tier Democrats will take another look. Senate incumbents have an over 90% reelection rate, and open seats are not common, so I'll bet some big names who passed on getting in earlier will take a second look.---Jason

Nickel started his campaign early while Cooper is mulling whether or not to do it. If the former governor joins the race, Nickel will endorse him.

We can you Donald Duck or Minnie Mouse and win, are you kidding? You’ve allowed Trump to OBLITERATE the Republican Party! (But he didn’t even come close to obliterating Iran’s nuclear capability, that lying sack! Bye bye!

It is IMPERATIVE that North Carolina gets a high quality candidate that appeals to the state's voters.

I hope NC voters wake up and realize that these Trump republicans are not the kind they used to vote for. That is, the kind that supported the 2 party system and weren't afraid to negotiate with the other side.

Republican voters have same mentality as trumpers. In this last election cycle we had a chance here in Texas to rid ourselves of a creep who flew to the sunny climes of the Caribbean while 700 of his constituents either froze to death or died of exposure. Instead, they reelected @TedCancunCruz.

Do your self a favor and not tru to understand the mentality of the GOP Voter. I have them in my own family. Most of them are blue collar workers who consistently vote against their own best self interests. Go figure.

I hope Roy Cooper runs for the seat (Im an NC resident). A popular Dem governor who worked for years to get Medicaid expansion and did so somehow finally with a Republican legislature. Tillis would have struggled if he was primaried by a MAGA type, but also would have trouble in the general if he got there and had supported Medicaid cuts. Now we’ll likely get a MAGA extremist running and odds are much better for the Dems, even if it isn’t Cooper.

It’s a D favorable midterm and we have competent D state party leadership.

If Ds flip that seat, Ted Budd is up next in 2028.

At least he should now be free to vote his conscience without Trump's lame threats.

Honestly, given Trump’s unpopularity, it was entirely possible that Tillis would have lost reelection even if he had voted in favor of advancing the BBB. He and Susan Collins were the most vulnerable Senators up for reelection.

If voters become more dissatisfied with Trump and Republicans, there’s at least a remote chance that Democrats take control of both chambers (Senate pickups could be realistically up to three or, if things go very bad for GOPers, as many as five), rather than just the House.

Good news on Tillis.

Now, I'm still waiting to see one of you fine university-educated political pundits write an in-depth piece on the probable risk Trump represents for the mid-terms, along the lines of him and his cabal of putrid and treasonous advisors either heavily rigging, delaying, or outright canceling them.

Remember that because of the Great Traitor Elon Musk, they now have the entire database on every American, their finances, and health records.

The voters must be made aware of the crooked maneuvers they'll be using as early as possible.

And before I get replies along the lines of "He can't do that", may I remind you of what we've seen him do so far?

Folks, the soulless GOP will do ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING to avoid facing the voters in 2026.

Plus they have a majority of scotus in their pockets. I really have to say sadly that I hate America. If I could I would leave the country unfortunately that is just not possible for me. We cannot simply ignore politics. It is part of our life. But the past forty or so years it's just been degrading like crazy. We need another Roosevelt, but those were very different times so who knows. If any of the people from back then could see today's technology I wonder what they would think. I think that the more advanced technology gets the worse humans get.

Good evening, Marjorie,

I'm guessing you're of a certain age if you're looking to Roosevelt. So am I. Seventy-one this October, to be more precise.

The politics you can't ignore aren't politics really. They're a coup financed by the wealthy to reduce America to a regressive caste system, where only the highest dollar determines the shape of freedom.

As for technology, it's neutral and doesn't care about you or me.

How it's used today, of course, is untenable.

I've been fighting Trump for a decade, mainly because he's a bully and I detest bullies and have a soft spot in my heart for America, having set foot in 34 states in my travels and been a lifelong student of the Civil War.

As a writer and social media expert, I've written hundreds of comments, drawn hundreds of cartoons, and created thousands of memes denouncing him and his cabal of putrid traitors.

I've been thinking about setting up a non-profit expat service for Americans to move to Canada, call it a sanctuary country if you will, as Trump is rapidly creating an environment that qualifies American citizens for refugee status under Canadian law. It's not quite there yet, but it's coming unless some true non-hoax patriot aims better to remove the main threat of massive bloodshed on the streets of America.

In the meantime, Marjorie, stay safe and keep in touch.

Yes I am of a certain age, LOL, 78+. I am not a student of anything, really, just gettng through each day hoping it will not be a physically difficult one for once! 😉 Living blue in the red corrupt sea of FL. FL voters astound me in their ignorance and love for the R party. I am a native New Yorker, but that was a lifetime ago. IF I could afford to move to Canada, which is doubtful, the weather would do me in!! I would be a "houseplant" much of the year. I am still not sure how to navigate Substack. 😁 I kind of found your reply ( thank you btw) by accident!! The Internet is like going down a rabbit hole, hours go by and no rabbit 🙃🤪. I live in hope that the orange rat will go by hook, by crook, or ANY other means. My Pastor would be upset if she knew what I meant by ANY. I mentioned frontal lobotomies and she replied the MAGAS would like to do the same to us. Food for thought, considering I have a sister [I think] who does not speak to me because I have LGBTQ friends, immigrants are fine, we are only second generation on the maternal side, but European. And I really hate Donald (I am a Randy Rainbow fan) Jessica Trump. I could never stand him. I wonder what Kathie Lee Gifford thinks of him now??? Time for me to hush up!!

I applaud him - in fact clap until he gets off the stage and out of the spotlight - or better yet, get the hook (you know, like in 'The Gong Show!' 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. He is 64 years old - and white. It's time for him to go home, shut up and play with his grandkids.

We have had enough of the old white men in Congress trying to tell everyone in this country how to live and what's what! We get rid of them, we may not have to have all the laws to protect everyone else so that everyone gets equal treatment. I hope more of them leave of their own volition - thank God Mitch McConnell is not running again. He's a waste of air in a hairy bag of bones. Maybe Kentucky will wake up and elect someone who will actually help them - After all, they elected Andy Beshear - surely there is more than one person in Kentucky like Andy.

Why is it that only when they do kot run for re-election do they start doing the right thing? I know, i know. It just infuriates me that they don't look out for their constituents because they only look out for their big campaign donors. It really is time to put an end to large campaign donors and also start term limits.

I think all elections need to safeguarded, because unelected people getting the job makes it all an expensive theatrical nonsense, ending in dictatorship. Election integrity is the key to democracy, lack of it is the key to authoritarianism.
