There is a simple fact in our system of government that the current administration and its wave of corruption have overlooked.

Trump has promised pre-emptive pardons to those in his orbit who carry out his orders. Trump has not promised pardons for those who have enriched him, his family, or those in his circle through corrupt acts, but any of these people seem to be operating under the impression that they will be getting pardons.

Given Trump’s history of hanging people around him out to dry, I would count on him to follow through with any promises.

Preemptive pardons would in theory, protect those who have done Trump’s bidding from being prosecuted by a future Democratic administration and Department of Justice.

The flaw in Trump’s thinking is that these pardons do not protect the people around Trump from being criminally prosecuted for violating state laws through corrupt actions.

The Trump administration and the people around them have been acting like they are above the law and untouchable, but this is not true.

Those who are accused of engaging in corruption don’t seem to have considered the possibility that Democrats could take back Congress and state-level offices and do much more than investigate, but that is what has happened.
