I have enormous respect for Rachel Maddow and I agree with her comments on these pardons and trump. She tells the truth and tells it as she sees it. We need more like her in the media

Eva Seifert's avatar

And Lawrence O'Donnell. And he's not shy about dinging the media either. He started his segment highlighting the difference between how the press treated Biden and how they're treating the POS.

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

I think Lawrence O'Donnell has a better understanding of what's going on with Trump than anyone else on cable news.---Jason

Tina Fagan's avatar

Absolutely. I never miss him if I can help it. My four favourites are Nicole Wallace, Ari Melber, Rachel Maddow and Lawrence

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

Nicolle Wallace has also been really strong. The issue with Maddow is that ever since she traded in her nightly show for getting paid a ton of money to create content she seems to have lost the plot a bit, and she gets really invested in one perspective. Not saying it is right or wrong, but it is one perspective, from somebody who by her own admission doesn't follow or pay much attention to Trump---Jason

Semolina Pilchard's avatar

Nicolle’s great. Love her

Eva Seifert's avatar

I would replace Rachel with Velshi and Ari with Stephanie Ruhle.

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

Rachel is supposed by totally shutting down her show for good during her new contract but not until after MSNBC is back on stable ground. She keeps saying in interviews that she doesn't like doing the show. It is a real time suck and source of stress for her, so when she goes, I would reunite Velshi and Ruhle, something MSNBC would never do and put them at 9.---Jason

Someone needs to have a chat with CNN. Where's a Jacob Marley when you need one?

TCinLA's avatar

There's a reason why I callthat place the Cretin News Network.

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

Maddow has been wrong about a lot of things when comes to Trump going back to Mueller, so it is important to keep in mind that she is just one voice.---Jason

Tina Fagan's avatar

She is a voice I trust implicitly. All media people have been wrong on occasion. And most are thought to be wrong by people who disagree with them

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

Everybody gets things wrong sometimes, but to me she did the best work of her career on the fake elector scheme, and since she went to weekly she or the show hasn't been the same.--Jason

James Parker's avatar

She wasn’t really far off on mueller. Bill Barr’s absurd “summary” of the report was accepted as gospel by most of the msm even though it unadulterated bullshit.

Anne McCracken's avatar

Yes, but never before a President who so blatantly abused used the pardon power to save his supporters who used violence. Never before a political party that defended this level of corruption. God lets us face the consequences of our actions and choices.

Jane Skye's avatar

Rachel’s reporting tonight may have been one of the most important news briefs we’ve seen since the election. If you didn’t see her live, I urge you to google it and be sure to watch the segment on Vance.

Tina Fagan's avatar

Rachel was dead on with her report tonight as she is always. I do agree that this was the most important

Aquarius Cat's avatar

What do I think of the insurrectionists pardons, none of these killers of the capitol building are as guilty, as the shameful insurrectionists who caused it!

Semolina Pilchard's avatar

The pardons are bullshit! The rule of law means nothing now.

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

Did the rule of law ever mean anything though? There have always been different rules for the wealthy and powerful than for the rest of us.---Jason

Eva Seifert's avatar

He also hung Bondi out to dry. She firmly said that there would be a case by case look to see if pardons were justified.

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

I get the sense that he saw the far right getting mad when the floated no pardons for violent people, and he overruled everyone and made Bondi, Vance, etc. look like idiots, which is something they should get used to.----Jason

Actually, I think she was telling what she thought she knew. She was very careful to dance around the questions in the segments I saw. But on the pardons, she was pretty firm. The POS has a habit of hanging people on his side out to dry.

TCinLA's avatar

Once upon a time the rule of law was strong enough that even the great traitor Nixon, the fount of all the evil that has poisoned American politics, felt he had to bow to it in the end.

Dian Harrison's avatar

So true……multiple systems of justice in this country!!!

Tina Fagan's avatar

He just wants his idiot army out of jail so that when he issues the call again they are ready. I wonder if any of them did some serious thinking about what landed them in jail. I wonder if they would all answer the call again

L. A. Parker-Danley's avatar

Rachel doesn’t owe us any tonic. Dark and depressing sounds honest right now.

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

She owes sticking to the facts and not indulging her cottage side hustle of authoritarianism fear-mongering.---Jason

B Boudinot's avatar

She's brilliant and speaks the truth. She is not a reporter or fear-mongering. Just the facts. Whether you see any or not.

TCinLA's avatar

You cannot "fear monger" the coming authoritarianism too strongly. Too many people still believe It Can't Happen Here. Only it is.

Cheryl Demmon's avatar

I watched Rachel's show tonight, and it was dark. But we need to know the truth. We can't hide our heads in the sand and hope everything will turn up roses. I hope, like Tina Fagan said, we have more media who will tell the truth. We must stay informed!

Marikay Martin's avatar

Rachel is right. If we become complacent, we become completely powerless.

Brenda King's avatar

Rachel gives us the truth and it's dark. She shows us history and patterns and makes us look at the reality that we have been lucky enough to not have ever needed to be able to see before this guy. If the complaint is that what she talks about is "dark" well, then we're not up to job of fighting fascism. And it will get darker. Let's see how we like that.

Tina Fagan's avatar

I trust her implicitly

CHARLOTTE YAGER's avatar

The pardons are a travesty to honorable people and to the justice system. What a message he gives to every authoritarian and despot. he literally says you can do what you want as long as you do it for me .Horrible, horrible horrible!

B Boudinot's avatar

Despots, dictators and authoritarian generally do not end well in history. Let's pray for current history to.find a way.

TCinLA's avatar

I pray every night that the motherfucker will eat the fatal hamberder.

Susana Salgado's avatar

The maga supreme court justices destroyed the rule of law when they accepted gifts from their rich benefactors and gave trump immunity.

Dr. Steven Quest's avatar

To those saying nothing can be done, you can at least call your Representative and your Senators and express your outrage and your expectation that they will speak out against these pardons. There should be no more normalization of Trump.

Morgan Condo's avatar

I have become weary of talking heads stating the obvious and being afraid. DO SOMETHING besides bellyaching! You all have the millions of viewers! Do something!

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

That is the problem. Maddow gets her audience worked up and then says do something, but doesn't offer any advice on what to do, because she doesn't have any.---Jason

tilzey's avatar

Rachel is a reporter and analyst of people and events. Why does she need to create solutions?

Can't we do part of the thinking on our own?

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

Maddow is not a reporter and never has been. She is anchor and before that she was a radio host. Honestly, she is a TV host which is why she smartly always asks her guests if she got anything wrong, which is very professional and appreciated by actual reporters.---Jason

tilzey's avatar

I think that the vocabulary is tripping us up.

I said she is a reporter because she takes information, tells us about it, and then offers analysis of the information.

However, if "reporter" means "journalist", then, yes, Rachel is not a journalist. Certainly, Rachel has a team of researchers, so she may not generate the initial research content. Maybe that separates journalists and anchors?

I have known of, and listened to Rachel Maddow since her job on Air America,

and have found her POV to be useful, much of the time.

B Boudinot's avatar

That is not her job...

And, for God's sake, PAY ATTENTION to local judges down the ballot...SCOTUS doesn't come from nowhere.

Morgan Condo's avatar

I didn't say Maddow was supposed to solve all the issues she restates. My understanding is that journalists uphold and revere democracy! Simply restating inflammatory rhetoric is useless to those who love this country. Maddow is a favorite of mine when she speaks truth to power! Trump doesn't read news.

Margaret Park's avatar

Had not heard of Rachel Maddox saying it, but that is exactly my response to Trump pardoning the Jan. 6 convictees. I remarked, "Now he has his own Militia."

MUSA💙💙💙USAM's avatar

I became disheartened with MSNBC when they started the Biden bashing. One 90 minute debate where he was jet lagged, sick and on meds and all except Lawrence flipped out, sounded like whiny bitches, including Rachel.

All of MSM was a 24/7/365 orange braggadocious, bloviating, illiterate, repulsive felonious racist vile slob happy hour, it was revolting. Had they given that much time to Biden and the good he did for America, we would have a different outcome. Passed the Infrastructure Plan, 5 minutes, move on back to the next f’n stupid thing that f’n despot did-ad nauseam.

Only way I’ll return to any MSM is if there are no more photos, video or audio of that orange buffoon. Fat chance, so I’ll stick to Substack and hopefully we will still have public radio.

I really enjoyed Rachel, digging into the dirt, a different view on what was happening, but no more.

Joe St. Martin's avatar

I certainly would like to see less photos of Trump. It makes me physically sick to look at him.

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

One of the many reasons why we do our best to avoid using Trump photos when possible.---Jason

Dian Harrison's avatar

And hear his voice!!!! He is disgusting in all ways!!

Michelle's avatar

That's when I stopped watching MSNBC MUSA💙💙💙USAM ! After that first debate, Rachel and her stupid giggle how President Biden looked, acted, ( not taking into account that he just flew through 7 time zones, was sick, tired, on cold meds, had not just a head cold but chest cold, was prepped to actually debate an imbecil not gish gosh technic, wouldn't adhere to the rules, no help from moderators), Michael Steele put her in her place and wiped that smile from her face, I said, NO More! I catch Lawrence on YouTube when his show pops up.

Barbara Hartwell's avatar

Not surprised by the pardons and Maddow's comments pretty much align with my own feelings. Having people who tell it like it is rather than the many who cave to keep in favor is appreciated.

What is different about this time around with Trump is we all know what we are dealing with - this is not our first go round. So WE need to be smart and pay attention which means those who report need to be ON their toes and tell the truth.

Jim Sullivan's avatar

Being retired from law enforcement I find this extremely disturbing. The real Felon complains about law and order but lets criminals (his buddies) out of jail and gives some of them a job. Also, who else is wondering how he won the swing states by 5 points and up but only by 1.5% overall. Make it make sense.
