Make them vote YES in the House of Representatives today to a cap on insulin price, to funding for rural hospitals and cancer care for seniors. It’s not left or right. It’s about doing the right thing. It’s about survival.

Larry's avatar

We have seen this crappy maga movie before, they always fold like limp noodles. Plan for the worst.

I think we’ve heard this song before!

When we hear skirts swishing on people like Mike Johnson and Van Orden what else could me conclude.

DEO's avatar

Call me Debbie Downer or maybe just realistic at this point, why should we believe this will go our way at this point when nothing has since Jan, 20th? I am hopeful until I’m not 😳🫣🥴

Roxanne Weaver's avatar

I agree. It seems they can all be bought…or threatened.

STOP The Insanity's avatar

If threats work !

We can do that!

I think Trumps really in bed with Putin and this money isn’t a tax cut ,

Think of how easy it would be to divert 2 or 3 trillion. !

Think of a country run by a mafia don moron. OF COURSE extortion is applied to everyone.

I am hopeful too, until I am not - and then, apparently like you, I find new hope and I move on to the next critical action in the path to keep our Country.

We have to stop the money from going to ICE so they can ramp up their goon army and round people up faster and in larger numbers, as Tom Homan has promised. We have to continue to stop the budgets of the DOJ so they can investigate and revoke citizenship from naturalized citizens.

What is happening in the House of Reps today is critical and the Hill has also started out an article on what to expect or watch for today.

Big Ugly Bill - What's Coming In The House - https://thehill.com/homenews/5380656-gop-bill-advances-rules-committee/

"Republicans can only afford to lose three votes and still clear the procedural hurdle, assuming full attendance and united Democratic opposition. The House is scheduled to convene on Wednesday at 9 a.m. EDT, with debate first, then a vote.

Two of those defectors, however, are already called for: Norman and Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.), the chair of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, say they will vote against the rule on the floor — and Harris said others will join them."

We have to continue to put pressure on them as many are waffling for various reasons - none of them empathy or compassion - but whatever reason we can get them to vote this down, the better! And every minute we have to fight back - we must to protect each other!

Stop the BS247's avatar

Where do we get the "can afford to lose only 3 votes from?

Bluesmurf's avatar

I figured it out. I have been watching them vote for the past hour and if 4 people vote no on the "R" side, then the vote is tied at 216 to 216, which is a loss.

Right now, until Johnson cheats, the vote on the current roll call is 216 to 216... knowing that B@*#%@$, he will leave the vote open until they can threaten, coerce, bribe or otherwise force at least 1 of those 4 votes to change their vote to yes. I don't think they should be allowed to do that. Once a vote is placed, it should be what it is.

Bluesmurf's avatar

He is holding the vote open and needs two votes to change to yes to proceed. They shouldn’t be allowed to do that.

George Washington (and countless people) tried to warn of this point in time coming...

"I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the State, with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally.

This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form, it is seen in its greatest rankness, and is truly their worst enemy.

The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty." part of Washington's Farewell Address in 1796.

Think about it and pass it on.

Unless they cancel this and the horror concentration camp in Florida? None of them will re-elected. CRUELTY BEYOND BELIEF !!!!

I am praying for a hurricane to wipe out the concentration camp in Florida.

I’ve been hoping for that for ten years.. but ya gotta think they’re gonna have one of those 100 yr ones… THIS YEAR.. praise the lord!!

My brother told me it flooded today but will need to verify on that..

Larry's avatar

Oh, having another "Election" is not maga's motive, believe me. This is old school Pharaoh, Kings, Queens, Mussolini and Genghis Khan crap now. They say "we will get over it" (last week) and "I don't need any more votes; have plenty" (2024) and "Everyone Dies" (from a cemetery last month.) This crap is not rocket science Kat; it's the continuation of the "Elections" of 2000, 2004, 2016 and 2020.

Strip the per diem food allowances for congress, strip down their healthcare coverage and eliminate pensions. They can invest in 401k plans. Why should they be fed, insured and have a paid future if they are okay with millions who don’t have their wealth or income losing theirs?

Tired Nana's avatar

They shouldn't receive any of the benefits you mention or be allowed to invest in the stock market based on privileged information. Unfortunately, they are in complete control of making the rules, just like they regularly vote to give themselves a raise. The entire system is corrupt, but they will never change it and there is no way to force them.

Anneliese's avatar

Absolutely correct! Nothing speaks louder than money!

Jutta Forkel's avatar

But of course we know if they are "promised" something they will cave, just like Murkowski in the Senate did.

Cathy Hill's avatar

The house Republicans need to know that if they vote NO, the public will call them heros!

Larry's avatar

Tell me how that works out for you.

Tired Nana's avatar

The grandstanding by the supposed "no" from a few Republicans is just theatre, same as it was in the Senate. For weeks, we were told that more than a handful would vote no. Then we were teased with the possibility that a simple majority wouldn't be allowed. None of it mattered. Trump's bill is the culmination of every dream Republicans have ever had of returning America to the land of white men in charge, with the wealthy pulling the strings. And, with the creation of Project 2025, they have been able to go even further, undoing all of the progress from the last 50 years. This and more is in that bill, including making ICE the most important law enforcement agency in the country and stripping National Parks of protection. There is no going back now and no easy way forward. This is an autocratic regime, not a democratic government. Our Constitutional guardrails were supposed to protect us, but the Founding Fathers never envisioned the three branches of government working together to undermine democracy.

Walt Svirsky's avatar

Exactly, Nana. It took every stinking Republicon voiding their oath to the U.S. Constitution for it to happen. Never forget the undeniable hypocrisy of the GOP.

Larry's avatar

Actually they did but the remedy of Impeachment was/is too weak.

"Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters." Ben Franklin

Bluesmurf's avatar

A "gathered flock of 'R's' " are now in the catbird seat. Let's see what kind of leverage they all have to get what they individually want for their States. After all, Lisa Murkowski threw us all under the bus when she got her bribe and then had the lack of foresight to go on National TV and tell everyone, I got what I wanted, I think this bill sucks, and I voted yes hoping that someone else will vote no and be in the crosshairs of the drumpf goon squad. (Get a spine, murkowski!)

I was more than slightly amused when the media reported that the GOP had just discovered there is safety in numbers to go against drumpf. Now that the bill is only 29% or less popular, and Elon is promising (doesn't mean he will) throw money at people who vote NO, hard to say what is about to happen. But I am going to watch and jump up and down for the opposing team, especially when the "R's" have the ball and their running backs run the other way.

In the meantime, we have today to keep flooding Congress, to keep up the Calls, to keep putting pressure on them! Numbers matter to these people and at least some of them see that they will lose their seats if they do this kind of harm to their constituents and their States. It only takes a few of them to tank this bill! - Help them find their courage!

They are so individually selfish that they keep forgetting about the truth that there really is “power in numbers“!

Larry's avatar

All the "holdouts" will get a piece of the extortion action, it is how the mafia works.

Erin Flanagan's avatar

I smell some quiet Elon money sloshing around the swing states. Andy Biggs from Arizona agrees.

Larry's avatar

Don't count on it, Muskrat is a snake.

Erin Flanagan's avatar

I didn't say the smell was sweet.

Larry's avatar

Muskrat will fold like a house of cards.

Martha Kenne's avatar

They are a bunch of no votes...until they aren't (typically after THE phone call).

Christine Sullivan's avatar

Why are they answering the phone then????

Martha Kenne's avatar

Ha! They shouldn't!!!!!!

Graham Brown's avatar

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah ……….. The snivelling cowards will fall in line. Ignore what they say and watch what they do.

Larry's avatar

Heard that. This is pure maga snake shit.

John Widdowson's avatar

I only hope that there are many republicans who find a spine and vote "no". This bill is a disaster.

Larry's avatar

Hope is not a plan. Plan for the worst.

Eric Perro's avatar

If there is any public opinion related salvation possible for Elon Musk, it might come in the form of his being ready to financially shield republican representatives from Trump's wrath in the possible mid-terms.

Having said that, it would cost Musk dearly in government contracts and subsidies.

But that might happen either way by the look of things, and if it does, watch the world's wealthiest man come out swinging as most self-respecting drug-addled hyper-wealthy egomaniacal nutjobs would.

As we've seen, counting on soulless republicans to form a sustained common front against TrAmp is a bit of a long shot, be it for this destructive bill or anything else the Feckless Felon cooks up.

Larry's avatar

Muskrat only has three choices, bend a knee to Xi of China, bend a knee to Agent orange mafia or go back to South Africa.

phelpsmediation's avatar

This bill turns the American Dream into a nightmare for all but the very wealthy!

If they vote this through, it will, later trigger Medicare cuts of 500 billion dollars. Between Medicare and Medicaid cuts, clinics and hospitals will have no choice but to close. Oncology practices already are operating on a very thin margin.
