Trump needs somebody to blame for the Republican midterm election blowout that is 100% his fault. Trump needs a scapegoat, someone to take the fall for his failed presidency and an even bigger failure of a midterm election campaign.
The president and his vice president have been engaged in a very passive-aggressive blame game, but there is one person whom the blame seems to be settling on, and that is Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who was one of the people within the administration pushing hard for the war with Iran.
House Democrats were already unified behind impeaching Hegseth, and then outgoing Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) announced he will force a vote on Hegseth’s impeachment next week.
Hegseth has even less time to save his job and stabilize his future than he thought, and even if he survives next week, the Democratic House majority will impeach him in the next Congress.
Trump has a habit of issuing public denials before he tosses someone out of the administration. The worst thing someone who could be getting kicked to the curb can hear publicly is that they are doing a great job, which is what Trump said about Hegseth on Wednesday.
As Trump claims Hegseth is doing a great job, he is on the phone saying something different.
