Notice how Palin implies media and class bias by making the assumption that Caroline Kennedy is going to be treated differently than she was. Of course Kennedy is going to be treated differently, she is not running for the vice presidency. Palin blamed the McCain campaign for having her sitting back down with Couric, and she also blamed Couric for editing the interview to make her look bad. Palin also claimed that she didn’t know much about the Tina Fey parody of her before she went on SNL.
The one thing that we have discovered about Sarah Palin is that the defeat to Obama was everyone else’s fault. Palin has never blamed herself for the loss. She doesn’t realize that it wasn’t media bias that made her a joke, but her horrible performance in the few interviews that she gave.
She was so terrible in her interviews that she wrote Tina Fey’s material for her. If Palin would have demonstrated any degree of intelligence and competence, she would not have become a national joke. It looks like Mrs. Palin has bought her own hype, but to me, the most insulting part of the media bias argument is that it assumes that most Americans are stupidly led around by the media. It gives people no credit for being able to think on their own.
The premise of the documentary Media Malpractice echoes this low opinion of the American people, “On November 4th, 2008 millions of Americans were shocked that a man of Barack Obama’s limited experience, extreme liberal positions and radical political alliances could be elected President of the United States. For many of these Americans, the explanation was rather simple… the news media, completely enamored with Obama, simply refused to do their job.”
What the 2008 election revealed is that the American people aren’t as dumb as the Republican Party thinks they are. They weren’t going to be deceived by gimmicks disguised as solutions, and the politics of fear any longer. The wing of the GOP that Palin represents is out of ideas, and unwilling to take responsibility for their shortcomings. Until the Republican Party changes, they will continue to lose elections.
