Maryland GOP Group Compares Obama to Hitler on Healthcare

The Republican Women of Anne Arundel County have posted a letter from their president, Joyce E. Thoman on their website that compared Barack Obama to Hitler and claims that Obama is blitzkrieging the American economy in an attempt to destroy it. Without seeing a bill, the letter also called healthcare reform terrifying.

Thorman wrote,
“Obama and Hitler have a great deal in common in my view. Obama and Hitler use the “blitzkrieg” method to overwhelm their enemies. FAST, CARPET BOMBING intent on destruction. Hitler’s blitzkrieg bombing destroyed many European cities – quickly and effectively. Obama is systematically destroying the American economy and with it AMERICA. First the banking/investment industry, next private enterprise (GM and Chrysler) and now HEALTH CARE. And he is working on grabbing more of the American economy with his environmental extremism!”

Then she moved on to healthcare, “Obama Health Care is an OBAMINATION! Because the President cannot yet introduce legislation, the Obama bill is coming in via Senator Edward M. Kennedy and appears it will be titled, “The Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009.” Although the bill has not yet been introduced, enough is known about it to cause great concern.”

Thorman also managed to work in a little hatred for illegal immigrants, “I urge you to open the CBO link in the GOP Leader’s Alert. There, you will find the Congressional Budget Office beginning analysis of the Affordable Health Choices Act. It is terrifying. It also contains some interesting sleight-of-hand language changes. For example, there is the category “unauthorized immigrants”. Is this new Obama speak for ILLEGAL ALIENS?”

Thorman is terrified of a bill that hasn’t even been introduced yet. This is a perfect example of the culture of fear that has swallowed up the GOP. The Hitler comparisons are old hat, however comparing actually passing legislation to blitzkrieg is a new one. I know that the Republicans must be shocked by the site of a government that actually passes legislation, but the legislative process is not blitzkrieg.

I always find it funny when any Republican who advocated secretly detained people and deprived them all legal rights, while spying on its own citizens, and making secret policy, and planting stories in the media calls Obama a fascist, or compares him to Hitler. The real assault on personal liberties and the Constitution occurred during the Bush years, which people like Thorman enthusiastically supported.
