The Senate has hung tough and voted to kill the House second attempt to pass a CR that delays Obamacare by a vote of 54-46.

Democrats easily met the threshold of a simple majority that was required to kill the House bill. The vote itself was along party lines with Democrats voting yes and Republican voting no.
Majority Leader Harry Reid has been telling House Republicans for days that if they sent another CR back that delayed Obamacare, the Senate would kill it dead in its tracks. On Saturday, Reid said, “To be absolutely clear, the Senate will reject both the one-year delay of the Affordable Care Act and the repeal of the medical device tax. After weeks of futile political games from Republicans, we are still at square one: Republicans must decide whether to pass the Senate’s clean CR, or force a Republican government shutdown.”
Speaker of the House John Boehner responded by calling Senate Democrats arrogant, “If the Senate stalls until Monday afternoon instead of working today, it would be an act of breathtaking arrogance by the Senate Democratic leadership. They will be deliberately bringing the nation to the brink of a government shutdown for the sake of raising taxes on seniors’ pacemakers and children’s hearing aids and plowing ahead with the train wreck that is the president’s health care law. The American people will not stand for it.”
The real arrogance is coming from House Republicans who are not listening to what they are being told. House Republicans refuse to believe that they are going to get nothing relating to the ACA. The Senate did exactly what they told John Boehner that they were going to do. The pressure is all on the Republicans. Their is a growing rumble of support within their own caucus to pass the Senate’s clean continuing resolution. John Boehner has made his choice. He is going to shut the government down.
Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats are hanging tough. They aren’t going to give Boehner an escape hatch. Senate Democrats sent the message again that Obamacare is not going to be touched.
