The source for the Ted Cruz sex scandal tabloid rumors is owned by a very close friend of Donald Trump. The fact that the story comes from one of Trump’s pals highlights that there is no dirty trick that is off limits to the Republican frontrunner.
After The National Enquirer reported that Ted Cruz had extramarital affairs with five women, Trump supporter Adriana Cohen spread the tabloid story into the mainstream media when she confronted one of the alleged mistresses, CNN’s Amanda Carpenter, live on the air.

Cohen said, “If we are going to call Donald Trump’s character into question, I would like Ted Cruz to issue a statement whether or not The Nation Enquirer’s story is true that he has had affairs including many women. You were named, Amanda. Will you denounce this story or will you confirm it?”
CNN’s Kate Bolduan jumped in and said that CNN has no reporting on the Enquirer story.
Carpenter said, “What’s out there is tabloid trash. If someone wants a comment on it, they should talk to my lawyer. It is categorically false. You should be ashamed for spreading this kind of smut. Donald Trump supporters should be held to account for it, and I will not be intimidated. I will continue to make my thoughts known about Donald Trump, and I am not backing down.”
Bolduan later expressed no interest in discussing the tabloid gossip of the Enquirer.
It isn’t difficult to put the pieces of the puzzle together, and all signs point to Donald Trump using his friends in the media to smear Ted Cruz.
The publisher of The National Enquirer is close friends with Donald Trump. The New York Daily News reported in August 2015:
Industry insiders tell us Trump is “very close” with David Pecker, head of The National Enquirer and CEO and chairman of American Media, which means the outlet is unlikely to dig too deeply into his personal life as he campaigns.

“Trump is a big friend of Pecker,” says our insider. “So no John Edwards-type investigations.”
Days after Trump got smoked in Utah, and with Cruz potentially in a position to win Wisconsin, Donald Trump needed something that would knock Ted Cruz out of the race and clinch the Republican nomination. Trump did what he does best. He literally brought the full brunt of his tabloid-style down on Ted Cruz.
If the story has any truth to it all, political journalists will uncover the facts. Most politicians can’t hide an affair with one woman, much less affairs with five or more.
Donald Trump is trying to avoid a brokered convention by smearing Ted Cruz and five women, and he got one of his friends to publish a story that has no other media outlets backing it up. The Cruz story could be true, but on the surface, this looks like another dirty trick from pathological liar Donald Trump.
