A coalition of Democratic attorney generals is threatening to sue President Trump for his executive order that would jeopardize access to clean drinking water for nearly one-third of the people in the United States.
Read the biggest developments from Michael Cohen's testimony.
The Trump executive order that guts the Clean Water Act would result in 60% of the nation’s freshwater sources being endangered and 100 million Americans potentially losing access to clean drinking water.
A coalition of Democratic attorney generals, led by Eric T. Schneiderman of New York threatened to sue the President in a statement, “Clean water is essential to life — and the people of our states and the nation deserve the basic protections established by the Clean Water Rule, to ensure that the benefits of clean water are shared equally, regardless of state lines. We won’t hesitate to protect our people and our environment—including by aggressively opposing in court President Trump’s actions that ignore both the law and the public’s paramount need for clean water.”
It is an ironic twist that a president who loved to threaten to sue people as a private citizen is being hauled into court for overreaching with his Executive Orders.
The purpose of the Trump administration is to dismantle any barrier to corporate profits. The President has firmly placed corporations ahead of public safety, and the Democratic attorney generals aren’t going to let him get away with it.
The Trump White House better get used to spending a lot of time in court, because their concept of unlimited presidential power flies in the face of legal precedent and the Constitution.
Trump won an election. He isn’t a king, which is why Democrats are going to use the Judicial Branch of the government to check his power.
