The Russia scandal has taken a dramatic turn has Michael Flynn has offered to testify to the FBI if he is granted immunity from prosecution.
The Wall Street Journal reported, “Mike Flynn, President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, has told the Federal Bureau of Investigation and congressional officials investigating the Trump campaign’s potential ties to Russia that he is willing to be interviewed in exchange for a grant of immunity from prosecution, according to officials with knowledge of the matter….He has made the offer to the FBI and the House and Senate intelligence committees through his lawyer but has so far found no takers, the officials said.”
It appears that no one is going to give Flynn a literal get of jail free card at this time. The investigations are in some ways in their early stages, so it might be too soon to give Flynn immunity, or it could be a sign that investigators don’t believe that Flynn can tell them anything that they don’t already have.
Crimes apparently were committed by at least one member of the Trump campaign, and investigators could use Flynn’s desire to stay out of prison as leverage to get information that he might be withholding.
The fact that the man that Trump made his national security adviser is shopping around for an immunity deal is bad news for the administration. What’s even worse is that Flynn is no ordinary political appointee gone bad. Flynn was in Trump’s inner circle and had been with the candidate since the campaign.
If anybody knows where the bodies are buried in the Russia scandal, it’s Mike Flynn.
Time could be running out on Trump as those involved in the campaign are getting nervous, and it seems like it will only be a matter of time until someone spills the beans.
