Congressman Warns That Our Democracy Is In Danger After Trump Fires James Comey

Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) is warning that US democracy is in danger and calling for Speaker of the House Paul Ryan to appoint a bipartisan commission to investigate Trump and Russia after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey.

Here is Rep. Cohen’s statement:

With Donald Trump and his team of Putin pals firing anyone who gets close to the truth on Russia, it is clear that the only way this president will ever be brought to justice is through an independent investigation.

The threat to US democracy grows with each passing day that Congress itself is allowed to handle the investigation. The administration will likely shut down the FBI’s investigation into Trump and Russia, so it up to Republicans to decide whether they are going to do the right thing, or force voters to do it for them by electing a Democratic-controlled Congress in 2018.

The country is in danger, but Republicans have already shown that they will sell themselves out to Putin to stay in power. America’s greatest hope is that the voters take their country back next November.
