Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) called Trump’s firing of James Comey Nixonian and demanded an independent investigation into Trump and Russia to uphold our nation’s system of justice.

In a statement provided to PoliticusUSA, Sen. Casey said, “This is Nixonian. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein must immediately appoint a special counsel to continue the Trump/Russia investigation. On March 20th Director Comey said, “I have been authorized by the Department of Justice to confirm that the FBI, as part of our counterintelligence mission, is investigating the Russian government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election and that includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia’s efforts.” This investigation must be independent and thorough in order to uphold our nation’s system of justice.”
Bob Casey is a moderate Democrat. He is not one of the first people anyone would expect to drop the Nixonian word after Trump fired Comey. The fact that Casey went there so fast suggests that there is something very wrong behind the firing of Comey.
It looks more and more like Trump is trying to save his own skin by obstructing the FBI investigation. Democrats have been expecting Trump and Sessions to do something like this from day one, which is why they have been calling for an independent investigation.
The firing of Comey has made it a million times more difficult for Republicans to claim that Congress can handle this investigation.
When the word Nixonian is starting to be tossed around, we’re entering the realm of abuse of power, obstruction of justice, and criminal activity.
One gets the sense that all hell is about to break loose on Donald Trump.
