Democrats Masterfully Paint Republicans Into A Corner On Russia Election Hacking

By calling on Republicans to join them in protecting the 2018 election from Russian hacking Democrats have painted Republicans into a corner. Either they break with Trump and admit that Russia cyber attacks are a problem, or they stand with their president and betray their own country.

Here is the letter from DCCC Chair DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) has sent a letter to Rep. Steve Stivers (R-OH), the chair of the NRCC, asking him to cooperate in securing the 2018 election:

No one expects Republicans to volunteer to work with Democrats to secure the election. After all, this is the same party that wouldn’t issue a joint statement with Obama condemning Russian election hacking during the 2016 campaign. The purpose of the letter is to get the Republican Party on the record. Do Republican support Russian cyber attacks on our elections? Are Republicans willing to anything about these attacks?

By asking these questions, the Russia scandal broadens from a Trump problem to a Republican Party problem.

It is a masterful bit of political strategy that is the first move to expose how Republicans really feel about the Russian election interference that they continue to enable. Republicans aren’t going to be allowed to hide from the Trump/Russia scandal in 2018.
