General Who Oversaw Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort Is Blasting Trump’s Puerto Rico Response

As Donald Trump continues to fumble the response to Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, even the general who oversaw the military response Hurricane Katrina is blasting the president.

In an interview on CNN on Saturday, Retired Lt. General Russel Honoré said Trump isn’t doing nearly enough to help the people in Puerto Rico.

When asked about Trump’s early morning tweets on Saturday and what he would advise the president to do, the general said:

I have no reaction. The mayor is living on a cot, and I hope the president has a good day at golf. … I would encourage him to give General Buchanan everything that he thinks he wants. Direct the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and order the NORTHCOM commander to be on scene. She has the authority to give Gen. Buchanan anything he needs, and that’s what’s needed right now, He needs the full support, no ifs or buts about it. We need more boots on the ground to help kick-start the system.

As the problem in Puerto Rico worsens and more people continue to suffer, Trump has proven himself to be not only an incompetent and unfit leader but a dangerous one. When all is said and done, his childish need to throw tantrums on social media instead of doing his job will likely cost lives.

The aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico hasn’t just left the island in tatters, but – like Hurricane Katrina did to George W. Bush’s presidency – it has left the Trump administration in tatters, too.
